I received the Kindle 2 as a gift a month ago and was looking forward to ordering a nice cover for it. After looking at the many options on Amazon I chose this jacket and am happy with it. Good quality, well-made and easily serves the purpose.
I ended up deciding on this, a little more expensive version of an M-Edge jacket, out of many choices as it was made to accommodate the M-Edge e-Luminator book light, which seemed like the best lighting option over the other clip-on model (of the two on the site which I could find), which didn’t receive as many good reviews. As a combo set (cover and light) I’m happy with both.
However, after much deliberation of which color would look best with my Kindle, I chose this lighter brown version, based upon the photos on Amazon, thinking that it looked like a nice calf-skin leather color, like a journal or a nicely-worn piece of hand luggage. However, the actual color is more of a dull, tannish-grayish-light brown and not what I was expecting (think dried puppy barf, not a rich calf skin tan). It’s still a good quality cover and works well, just not the color I was hoping for.
Also (not a product quality issue), I ordered the cover with free super saver shipping understanding that it would arrive by a certain date, in time for a planned trip. After the order, it took several days to actually ship and the stated delivery date changed and showed to a later date. So, I ordered the exact same cover again, but with 2-day shipping, paying for it this time so that I’d be sure to have it in time. But, both end up arriving on the same day. I returned one as planned, paying the return shipping costs, not a big deal (~$5 x 2 there and back), but pretty irritated that the delivery date estimate for the original order was so far off that I was forced to order the second version just to be sure I’d get it in time and then have it turn out as a unnecessary step and expense.

The hinges on this jacket cover bent and cracked the left edge of the kindle case from the inside. I would not recommend this cover.

I have been using this cover for a week now and it does protect the kindle from drops and scratches. the cover is very nice quality leather but it does have a heavy leather smell to it that I don’t mind but my daughter dislikes. the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is the tab that you use to tuck in the slot to secure the cover closed is annoying when you are holding the Kindle.

I really wondered if this was worth more than the Amazon cover. After much debate, I decided to purchase the M-Edge Prodigy Hinge cover. I am very glad I did. Now I have seen the Amazon cover (my father also has a Kindle with the Amazon cover) and the two are not even in the same league. The only place where the Amazon cover is superior is the built-in metal connection to the cover itself. I believe the quality of the leather is superior in the M-Edge product and you can have your choice of color. With the Amazon cover, you can have any color you want as long as it is black. Also the interior leather of the Edge cover is a nice quality grey suede.
I am pleased with the hinge system in that it allows me to set my Kindle upright for reading. The leather slot that holds the two parts of the cover together is a little cumbersome at times but it does keep the two parts together snuggly.
There are also two interior pockets inside the cover. One is about the size of the Kindle and another is about the size of a business card. The smaller pocket seems a bit unnecessary to me but it is a minor quibble.
I would highly recommend the cover. There was about a 2 week lag time from when I ordered the cover until it was delivered. I must say that I got the cover before it said I would.

Just received this cover today (in purple, but same model), about 3 weeks after ordering from Amazon. Granted, it was ordered before the product was even complete so I was ok with the wait. It is very similar in look and feel to a Dooney and Bourke pocketbook if you are familiar with them. It has a great leather smell, just like a new purse. And the additional room on the binder side (meant for the e-Luminator light – sold separately) gives you a nice place to hold the cover with the Kindle attached.
I love the hinge system, one of the main reasons I bought it. Coming from the K1, the original case Amazon provided was functional but the Kindle always fell out. So when Amazon improved the hinge for the K2, I knew I would only buy a case that had that feature. One word of note, I initially did not “lock” the K2 in the new m-edge case correctly and it almost fell out when I shook it (over a sofa) to test the support. Luckily the two straps on the top right and bottom right held it from falling. Then I discovered I had not closed the hinge enough and made sure the top hinge was securely pushed upwards to “lock it”. Installation instructions are not included with the case (weird) but are available from m-edge online. Amazon won’t let me post the url, but if you go to the buymedge website you can view the installation intructions.
The look and feel of the case is very professional. I am very happy with this purchase and do not expect to be taking the Kindle out of it very often. The only little issue I have is that the tab is a bit too snug when it needs to be slid into the cover to close. A snap might have been a bit easier. Still not enough of a con to drop the rating. But the tab does tuck away easily so as not to interfere while reading, which is nice.
